About IESIS

In this age of increasing specialisation IESIS is the one engineering body that welcomes members from all engineering disciplines.

It in no way challenges the great specialist institutions - the Civils, Mechanicals, Electricals and others - but it does provide a unique forum in which engineers from many branches of the profession can meet and discuss matters of common interest with their peers.

Objectives

Scotland is on the threshold of a new self awareness at the beginning of the new Millennium: the future prosperity of Scotland will in no small measure depend on the continuing vitality of its engineering-based industries where innovation, excellence and high standards will be required to maintain competitiveness in the global economy.

IESIS aims to serve the economy in the future by:-

  • Providing a forum to keep before the public engineering issues of key importance to the economy
  • Supporting and encouraging engineering education and training at all levels
  • Encouraging effective interchange between industry and higher education to maintain a dialogue on future developments in engineering
  • Promoting the importance of engineering nationally and providing high quality advice to government and all relevant bodies on matters of public policy where engineering developments have significance
