Professor David Harrison will deliver his Presidential Address "Advances in Engineering Computing" at the first meeting of the 2008/2009 session
"150 years of engineering education in Scotland - a critique"
In a provocative and hard-hitting lecture, Professor Iain MacLeod, Emeritus Professor of Structural Engineering at Strathclyde University will review the development of engineering education from the appointment of Lewis Gordon in 1840, as the first professor of engineering at Glasgow University to the present day.
Engineers have tranformed Scotland during the past 150 years. There is no material aspect of life in Scotland that has not been touched by their contributions. In this important lecture, Professor Hume will look specifically at four areas where the impact of engineers has been particularly notable; daily life; urban growth; economic performance; and the perception of Scotland by the rest of the world.
